Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s soccer drops overtime match at Bethel 2-1

McKENZIE, Tenn. - 10/27/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime at Bethel (Tenn.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dropped to 7-6-2 on the season and 1-3-1 in the TranSouth. Bethel improved to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in league play.

This marked the fifth overtime match in their 15 contests on the season. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 1-2-2 in those five matches.

Bethel scored first with a goal from Beslyan Langeigne in the second minute of play. But Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ quickly answered just 10 minutes later on a goal from Amber Lovelady to tie the match.

The defenses took over from that point as neither team scored for the remainder of regulation. As the first overtime was coming to a close and a second overtime seemed certain, Bethel’s Tori Barraco scored with 10 seconds left to give her Wildcats the win. Rachel Rathbone and Kelly-Jade Whelan each recorded assists in the match for Bethel.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out-shot Bethel 7-3 in the first half, but was dominated in shots for the remainder of the match. Including the second half and overtime, Bethel led in shots 8-2. Bethel held the shots advantage 11-9 in the match, but it was Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ leading shots on goal 6-3.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goalie Emily Warren allowed two goals and recorded one save in 100 minutes in the net. Bethel’s Jessica Coates had five saves and allowed the lone goal in her 100 minutes in net.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the final regular season match of the year on Friday, Oct. 29 at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) at 5:00 p.m.
