JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/23/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University cross country teams swept the in the championship meet on the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ campus. For the women’s team, this marked the eighth straight conference title. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men captured their seventh straight league title.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also swept the post season honors. On the women’s side, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Allison Martin was named the TranSouth Runner of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Head coach Gary Johnson earned TranSouth Coach of the Year honors. The men’s honors went to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Alex Bett as the runner of the year, Edwin Kurgat as the newcomer of the year and Coach Johnson was named coach of the year.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s women had four runners on the TranSouth All-Conference team including Martin, Ashlee Stewart, Hannah Clardy and Lilli Harmon. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s men had three runners to earn all-conference honors including Bett, Kurgat and Zach Covington.
Nine Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ runners earned TranSouth Scholar Athlete awards including Lilli Harmon, Cally Howell, Hannah Clardy, Carissa Wilson, Carrie Moore, Kayla Hauss, Joel Wellum, Zach Covington, Drake Ott.
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s results were Martin in first (19:19), Stewart in third (19:59), Cardy in fourth (20:15), Harmon in sixth (20:50), Carrie Moore in eighth (20:58), Kayla Hauss in ninth (21:30), Carissa Wilson in 10th (21:32) and Cally Howell in 16th (22:13).
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s results were Bett in first (26:04), Kurgat in second (26:05), Covington in fourth (26:49), Drake Ott in ninth (27:47), Joel Wellum in 11th (28:06), Dan Ramer in 13th (28:23), Caleb Creel in 14th (28:29) and Logan Smith in 18th (29:54).
Up next for the cross country teams will be the NAIA Qualifying Meet in Nashville on November 5.
