Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s soccer stops skid with 3-0 win over Cumberland

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/9/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team halted their two-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 9-2 on the season and 2-2 in the TranSouth. Cumberland dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the TranSouth.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored early and often as Dejan Kostic started the big first half with a goal in the 16th minute on a penalty kick. Eleven minutes later, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Diego Santos scored his team-high eighth goal of the season to put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 2-0. Alysson Mohl and Kostic earned assists on the play. Then just four minutes later, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Guilherme Reis found the back of the net with a goal, assisted by Kostic. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outshot Cumberland 10-1 in the first half, including 4-1 in shots on goal.

In the second half, the pace slowed for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as both teams managed just one shot each over the first 20 minutes. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished the match leading the shot totals 13-3 overall and 5-2 in shots on goal. Rainer Hauss recorded two saves in his 90 minutes in net. Gubby John-Williams had two saves for Cumberland.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road non-conference match on Tuesday, October 12 at Williams Baptist (Ark.).
