JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/2/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s and women’s cross country teams posted first place finishes in the 2010 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Cross Country Invitational held on Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s campus.
In the women’s race, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted a team average of 19:57, almost a full minute ahead of second place Blue Mountain (Miss.). Bethel (Tenn.) finished third, while Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) finished fourth. Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) competed but did not field a full team.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Allison Martin won the event with a time of 18:53. Ashley Stewart of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished second (19:45). The rest of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ runners included Hanna Clardy in fourth (20:02), Lilli Harmon in sixth (20:28), Carrie Moore in seventh (20:34), Carissa Wilson in ninth (20:50), Kayla Hauss in 14th (21:36) and Cally Howell in 15th (21:40).
The men’s race had Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ winning with an average time of 26:17, over a minute ahead of second place Bethel. Blue Mountain finished third and Trevecca Nazarene finished fourth. Freed-Hardeman competed but did not field a full team.
Alex Bett finished as the top Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ runner for the first time this season with a time of 25:23. Edwin Kurgat was second (25:31), Zach Covington was third (26:03), Drake Ott finished eighth (27:09), Caleb Creel finished 14th (28:09) and Logan Smith finished 19th (29:29).
Up next for the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ cross country teams will be the 2010 TranSouth Championship meet at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on October 23.
