Jackson, Tenn. - 3/18/2003 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University guard, has been named by the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as the State Farm Player of the Year. Henson was also selected to the WCBA Kodak All-American Team. She adds this to her first team All-TranSouth selection from earlier this month.
Henson, a native of Bradford, Tennessee, leads the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 17.2 points per game. She is also averaging 5.3 rebounds, 3.4 steals, and 3.2 assists per game. She was named the conference player of the week once this season. Henson ranks first in the TranSouth in three-pointers made per game at 3.03 (100 made in 33 games) and second in the league in steals per game at 3.4 (112 in 33 games). Henson also ranks fourth in three-point percentage at .376 (100-266) and fifth with her 17.2 points per game.
No. 2 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (33-2) opens their 12th consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearance with an 8:30 p.m. match-up with Langston University (25-8) out of Oklahoma. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has a No. 1 seed in the tournament and earned entered the tournament with their eighth straight conference championship. Langston received an al-large bid after finishing second in the Red River Conference Tournament.
