Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s soccer falls at No. 8 William Carey, tops Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. - 9/25/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s soccer team recorded a spit in their weekend trip to Mississippi. On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs fell 4-0 at NAIA No. 8 William Carey (Miss.) University. Then on Saturday, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rebounded with a 1-0 overtime win at Belhaven (Miss.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 5-3 on the season. William Carey is 7-1-2 overall and Belhaven is 1-6.

William Carey scored first with a goal in the seventh minute by Gemma Mecalfe. Seven minutes later, Sasha Rodriguez put William Carey up 2-0, a score that would stand until the half. In the second half, two more William Carey goals set the final at 4-0. Metcalfe added a second goal, while Chelsea Granger capped off the Crusader scoring. Emily Doyle, Natalia Nino, Jackie DeNova and Metcalfe recorded assists in the match.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goalie Grace Boto recorded five saves in her first action of the year between the posts. Jackie DeNova recorded four saves in net for William Carey. William Carey out-shot Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 16-6 in the match, including 9-4 in shots on goal.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied back with a win the next day over Belhaven, 1-0 in overtime. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s winning goal came from Terilyn Wassell, assisted by Bridget Roney, in the 93rd minute of play.

Belhaven out-shot Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 11-10, while Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held the shots on goal advantage 5-4. Boto again played goalie for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, recorded four saves for her first win. Kelli Brewer had four saves for Belhaven.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be Saturday, Oct. 2 versus Faulkner (Ala.) at home at 4:00 p.m.
