Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ cross country teams finish strong in Vanderbilt race

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/18/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University cross country teams opened their 2010 season in the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic in Nashville. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's men finished seventh place, while the women posted an eight place finish. Both teams were the highest finishing NAIA team in their respective race.

On the men's side, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Edwin Kurgat finished seventh in the 8K event with a 25:48 time, just 31 seconds back of the winner. Other Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finishers included Alex Bett in 25th (26:27), Zach Covington in 55th (27:33), Drake Ott in 72nd (28:04), Joel Wellem in 81st (28:32), Caleb Creel in 94th (29:09), Dan Ramer in 98th (29:27) and Logan Smith in 112th (31:09).

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ freshman Allison Martin posted a 15th place finish in the 5K race with a time of 18:56, just 55 seconds off the winner. Other finishers for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ included Kayla Hauss in 63rd (20:22), Ashlee Stewart in 69th (20:45), Hannah Clardy in 72nd (21:03), Carrie Moore in 76th (21:16), Lilli Harmon in 78th (21:21), Carissa Wilson in 84th (21:50) and Cally Howell in 97th (22:56).

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 25.
