JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/9/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University volleyball team posted a 3-1 (25-22, 25-11, 23-25, 25-22) win over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College in a TranSouth Conference match-up. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Martin Methodist dropped to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out early and took control of the match with a 25-22 win. The Lady Bulldogs dominated the second set and seemed to put the match out of reach with a commanding 25-11 win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 13 at 22-9 during the second set.
However, Martin Methodist rallied and led for the majority of the third set, including 17-10 at one point. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied, but lost 25-23.
In the fourth set, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Martin Methodist went back and forth with several lead changes and five ties. Martin Methodist led 15-14, before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rattled off six of the next nine points to take a 21-17. The Lady Bulldogs held on to take the set and the match, 25-22.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Marcella Madeira with a season-high 22 kills. Heather Lieberman and Anna Sims added 11 and 10 kills respectively. Emmie Moroski dished out 46 assists, while Caroline Robbins and Shelby Swink led with four blocks each.
Martin Methodist was led by Paula Sioto with 16 kills. Ann-Katherin Kuehorn added 14 kills. Carline Santos recorded 33 assists and Sydney Williams led with four blocks.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a trip to Cleveland, Tenn. as they will play three matches in the Lee (Tenn.) University Classic. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will face off against Belhaven (Miss.), Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) and NAIA No. 4 Lee.
