JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/7/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team extended their streak of shutouts to start the season to four matches with a 2-0 win over Truett-McConnell (Ga.) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 4-0 on the season, while Truett-McConnell dropped to 2-3 on the season.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s best start to a season was 11-0 in 1999. Their current 4-0 start is fourth best in the 13-year history of the program. The four shutouts to start the season is a program record, passing the previous of two straight in 2005. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s record for total shutouts in a season is 10 in 2003.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first on a goal from the TranSouth Player of the Week, Diego Santos from six yards out in the eighth minute of play. Guilherme Elvira had the assist. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added an insurance goal in the 31st minute when William Hanna scored on an assist from Brian Castro to put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 2-0.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s defense did the rest, making their 2-0 halftime lead stand up for the win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held Truett-McConnell to just eight total shots, none on goal. While the Bulldogs recorded 25 shots, 12 on goal.
James Landham played all 90 minutes for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in goal, but saw little action with no saves. Dan Dawson for Truett-McConnell recorded 10 saves in his 90 minutes between the post.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road match on Friday, September 10 at the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
