Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ opens season with 3-1 conference victory

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/31/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University Lady Bulldog volleyball opened the 2010 season with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 25-22) victory over Lyon (Ark.) College. Lyon dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the TranSouth.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Lyon played a back and forth first set. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held their largest lead of 21-16 before holding on for the 25-22 win. In the second set, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Lyon played close again until the Lady Bulldogs scored six straight points to lead 18-12. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ went on for the 25-18 win. In the third set, Lyon led 23-20 before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ score four straight to take a lead of 24-23. However, Lyon scored the last three points to take the set 26-24. In the fourth set, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a 10-4 lead and never trailed as they took the set and match 25-22.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Anna Sims with 16 kills. Heather Lieberman and Caroline Robbins added 15 kills, while Marcela Madeira recorded 10 kills. Emmie Moroski tallied 52 assists. Shelby Swink led with three blocks, while Moroski, Madeira and Sims added two blocks each.

Lyon was led by Suzanne Fincham with 14 kills and Chelsea Hinton with 12 kills. Danielle Reed tallied 35 assists and three blocks.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a conference game in Pulaksi, Tenn. versus Martin Methodist College on Thursday, Sept. 9.
