Jackson, Tenn. - 3/4/2003 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs now have numerous individual awards to add to their TranSouth Regular Season Championship. Jessica Henson, Christal Merriweather, Ginger Bryant, and Allison Harrison each received .
For the first time in her career, is not the TranSouth Player of the Year; after being named as the top player as a freshman and sophomore. Henson, however, put together player of the year numbers once again as she posted 16.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.4 steals per game. She was named the conference player of the week once this season. She ranks first in the TranSouth in three-pointers made per game at 2.97 (89 made in 30 games) and second in the league in steals per game at 3.2 (102 in 30 games). Henson also ranks fourth in three-point percentage at .368 (89-242) and fifth with her 16.3 points per game.
joins Henson as a first team All-TranSouth performer. Merriweather averaged 12.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. She ranks third in the conference in assists per game and seventh in free throw percentage at .769 (80-104).
makes the third Lady Bulldog junior to be selected first team All-TranSouth. Bryant, along with fellow juniors Henson and Merriweather, have led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in scored for the entire season. She is averaging 13.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. Bryant is third in the TranSouth in total rebounds (256) and third in offensive rebounds (77). She also ranks second in total blocks in the league (50).
Senior center, has been selected to the second team All-TranSouth. On the season, she is average 10.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. Her inspired play this season has helped the Lady Bulldogs clinch their eight straight regular season title. During the last six games, Harrison has averaged 13.7 points and 8.0 rebounds including her season high 27 points at Lee University and a 10 point, 14 rebound performance at Freed-Hardeman.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ plays host to the No. 8 seeded Lee University tonight in the first round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament at 7:00 p.m. With a win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host the winner of the No. 4 Lyon/No. 5 Berry game. The second round will be Friday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. and the championship game will be Monday, March 10. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will have home court advantage for all of their games.
