Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ falls in winner's bracket final, still alive to defend title

PADUCAH, Ky. - 5/12/2010 - The NAIA No. 2 ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) University jumped out early and rolled to a 14-5 victory over No. 21 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University in the winner's bracket final of the 2010 McDonald's TranSouth Baseball Tournament.

Top seed Cumberland advances to the championship game at noon on Thursday and will need just one win for the title. Second seeded Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will play in an elimination game at 7:00 p.m on Wednesday night for a chance to play Cumberland again in the title game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ faces the winner of Lyon (Ark.) and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) at 7:00 p.m., both of which Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has defeated in this tournament.

Cumbelrand scored three runs in the first on a three-run home run from Kris Miller. After Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered with run in the bottom of the first, Cumberland added five more in the second to put the game away early.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added four runs in the sixth with the help of a two-RBI triple from Kevin Kirksey. At that point, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed 10-5, but Cumberland added four more runs over the final three innings to put the final at 14-5.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ drops to 39-14 on the season, while Cumberland improves to 49-8.
