NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 4/30/2010 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ (Tenn.) University softball ended their run in the 2010 TranSouth Softball Conference Tournament with a pair of losses on Friday. Â鶹ÊÓƵ, the #2 seed, fell to top-seeded Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University 4-3, and then was eliminated by #6 seed Bethel (Tenn.) University 3-0. Â鶹ÊÓƵ ends their season with a 34-16 record.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ made a quick push through the winner’s bracket with an 8-2 win over #7 seed Lyon (Ark.) on Wednesday and then a 2-1 10-inning victory over #3 seed Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Thursday. However, the Lady Bulldogs fell short of their goal with a third place finish in the tournament.

Against Trevecca Nazarene, Â鶹ÊÓƵ scored first with a run in the top of the first. Trevecca responded with a run in the fourth to tie the game and then three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take their first lead. Â鶹ÊÓƵ answered with two runs in the seventh, but fell one run short on the comeback. Lindsey Landreneau led Â鶹ÊÓƵ with three of the team’s five hits. Amber Hayes had a home run and two RBI to lead Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Brooke Thomas (21-9) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

In the final game, Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s defense let them down as the team committed four errors leading to all three runs for Bethel being unearned. Offensively, Â鶹ÊÓƵ outhit Bethel 6-4 but left 10 runners on base. Bethel got a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth for all of the game’s scoring. Â鶹ÊÓƵ was led by Ali Thomas with three hits. Keaton Kirk (13-5) took the hard-luck loss, going seven innings, allowing no earned runs on just four hits with one strikeout.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ ends their season with the 34-16 record and receiving votes in the NAIA rankings. An at-large bid to the nationals seems unlikely with the team not ranked high enough in the national rankings.
