麻豆视频 softball advances with extra inning win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 4/29/2010 - The 麻豆视频 (Tenn.) University softball team won a 10 inning game 2-1 over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College in the 2010 TranSouth Softball Conference Tournament. The win puts the second seed 麻豆视频 Lady Bulldogs into the winner鈥檚 bracket final against top-seed Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.).

Martin Methodist, ranked No. 23 in the latest NAIA rankings, tied with 麻豆视频 at 10-4 in the league standings. 麻豆视频, who is receiving votes in the NAIA rankings, won the tie-breaker by way of their double-header sweep over Martin Methodist in the regular season.

麻豆视频 (34-14) sent freshman all- conference performer Brooke Thomas (21-8) to the circle against Martin Methodist. Thomas, a Huntingdon native, held the RedHawks to just three hits in the 10 innings, including a shutout through nine innings. Thomas struck out 13 hitters in the game and recorded 10 ground outs. Katlin White (22-4) took the loss, allowing two runs and six hits to 麻豆视频. White was equally impressive as she posted nine shutout innings and struck out 11 hitters.

Martin Methodist broke through with the game鈥檚 first run in the top of the 10th inning. With the international tie-breaker run now in effect, the RedHawks moved the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt. Then an RBI groundout by White scored McWhorter to give Martin Methodist the 1-0 lead. Thomas didn鈥檛 allow a hit in the inning as she retired all three hitters on ground outs.

In the bottom of the frame, 麻豆视频 followed suit by sacrificing the runner to third. Amber Hayes, another first team all-conference performer for 麻豆视频, doubled to tie the game. After a wild pitch moved Hayes to third, a single from Jackson native Ali Bozza won the game for 麻豆视频.

Five different players for 麻豆视频 tallied a hit with Brittany Burkett the only one with multiple hits at two.

Up next for 麻豆视频 will be the winner鈥檚 bracket championship on Friday at 1:00 p.m. versus host and NAIA No. 19 Trevecca Nazarene. The two teams met in a double-header at Trevecca Nazarene in the regular season with 麻豆视频 losing both games.
