Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Kirk named TranSouth co-pitcher of the week

PULASKI, Tenn. - 4/12/2010 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University freshman Keaton Kirk was named the TranSouth Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 11, 2010.

Kirk, a 5-foot-5 pitcher/outfielder from Bolivar, Tenn., recorded two of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s three wins on the week. Kirk tossed her first collegiate no-hitter in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s 4-0 win over LSU-Alexandria. She recorded eight strikeouts to just one walk as she faced just two batters over the minimum. Kirk also had a shut-out win against Cumberland University last week. On the week she was 2-1 with a 1.11 ERA, striking out 18 in 19 innings of work. She improves to 11-2 in the circle for the Bulldogs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is second in the TranSouth Athletic Conference with a 6-2 record and the No. 20 Bulldogs are 26-12 overall.

Kirk’s older sister, Kristen, was a four-year starter for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ softball and is now the graduate assistant. Her dad, Tony, was a standout on the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ baseball team in the 1980’s and was a member of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s 1983 NAIA World Series third place team.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings and has a 27-13 overall record and is 7-3 in the TranSouth.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be double-headers with Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host FHU on Saturday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m. for senior day and with then travel to Henderson on Tuesday, April 20 for a double-header at 5:00 p.m.
