NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 4/10/2010 - The No. 20 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday with 6-0 and 3-2 losses at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dropped to 26-12 overall and 6-2 in the TranSouth. Trevecca Nazarene improved to 32-9 on the season and a league best 9-1.
Looking to avoid the sweep, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored their first run of the day in the first inning of game two. Lindsey Landreneau doubled and then scored later on an RBI from Ali Thomas. Trevecca Nazarene, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings, regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on four base hits. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning on error by the Trojans. The score remained tied until the first batter in the bottom of the seventh inning. Trevecca Nazarene’s Kelsey Lantrip hit a game-winning home on the first pitch she saw. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led offensively by Stephanie Saunders with two hits, while Ali Thomas produced the lone RBI. Keaton Kirk (11-3) took the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.
In the first game, Trevecca Nazarene again used the home run ball to win the game. The score was 0-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Lauren Baker hit a three-run home run to put the Trojans on top. Another three run shot in the sixth inning, this time by Monica West, helped Trevecca Nazarene pull away for the 6-0 win. Brooke Thomas (13-7) took the loss, allowing just two earned runs on just four hits in the game while striking out six hitters. Riley Mashburn (17-4) tossed a one-hit shutout for the win. Katie Davis recorded Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s only hit with a single in the second.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another conference double-header on the road as the Lady Bulldogs travel to Bethel (Tenn.) University on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
