CLIFTON, Tenn. - 4/3/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University golf team captured their fourth tournament title this spring with the championship of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Spring Invitational at Ross Creek Landing. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted the top team scores on both days to lead wire-to-wire.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s 599 won the event, including a first round score of 298 on Friday and 301 on Saturday. Lambuth (Tenn.) finished second with a score of 604. Cumberland (Tenn.) was third with a 610, Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) was fourth with a 614, Martin Methodist (Tenn.) was fifth with a 616, Bethel was sixth with a 628 and Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s B-team was seventh with a 645.
Martin Methodist’s Andy Beckham defeated Trevecca Nazarene’s David Saldana in a playoff to win the individual title. Both golfers posted a two-day total of 143.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Ryan Chandler finished third with a 147.Clay Mallard (150) finished T6, Mills Hamaguchi (151) finished T8, Brett Barry (153) finished T15 and Jesper Swedenborg (163) finished T31.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s B-team included Matt Kelley (159) T23, Wes Dyer (162) T27, Tyler Lay (162) T27, Micah Gentle (164) 33, and Jake Carroll (167) 34. David Hopper (158) finished tied for 21st as an individual and Ryan Mantooth (176) finished 36th as an individual.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the TranSouth Conference Golf Tournament at Pickwick Landing Golf Course on April 12-13. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ captured TranSouth titles in 2006 and 2008.
