JACKSON, Miss. - 3/30/2010 - The No. 19 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University baseball team posted a 4-1 victory at Tougaloo (Miss.) College on Tuesday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 22-5 on the season, while Tougaloo dropped to 2-28.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ freshman and former University School of Jackson standout Jared Davis(5-0) tossed seven innings in the victory, allowing just the one run on four hits and eight strike outs. Kevin Kirksey (3) earned the save by tossing the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three hitters.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first in the fourth inning with a pair of doubles, the first coming from Beau Baker followed by David Maristany’s RBI double. The Bulldogs added a second run in the sixth inning with two more doubles. Cory Rudolph doubled ahead of the second RBI double on the day for Maristany. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tacked on two more insurance runs in the seventh inning when pinch hitter Dan Beck hit his first home run of the season. His two-run shot drove in Grant Luke who singled to lead off the frame.
Tougaloo scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will play at No. 16 Belhaven (Miss.) on Wednesday stepping back into TranSouth Conference play at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) this weekend.
