LAKE WELLS, Fla. - 3/27/2010 - The No. 17 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University softball team posted a double-header sweep at Warner (Fla.) University on Saturday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the first game 2-1 in eight innings, then won game two by the same score of 2-1. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 21-9 on the season while Warner dropped to 15-10-1.
In the first game, Lindsey Landreneau recorded a bunt single to push the tie-breaker runner over to third base in the top of the eighth inning. Ali Bozza drove in the go-ahead run when she reached on a error. Brooke Thomas (12-5) struck out two batters in the bottom of the eighth to secure the complete game victory. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first with a run in the third inning, before Warner tied the game in the fourth. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scattered six hits in the game, including two each from Landreneau and Brooke Thomas. Bozza recorded Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s only two RBI without the benefit of a hit. Her RBI ground out in the third gave Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the temporary lead. Brooke Thomas allowed just three hits and one run with six strikeouts in the win.
Game two started with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scoring in the first to go up 1-0. Bozza, who reached on a single, scored later in the inning when Amber Hayes reached on a fielding error. The score stayed 1-0 until Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tacked on a necessary insurance run in the top of the sixth inning. Landreneau doubled followed by Bozza with an RBI single to put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 2-0. Warner scored in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to 2-1. Keaton Kirk (9-2) earned the win with 5.1 innings of work, allowing one run on five hits with eight strike outs. Brooke Thomas (1) earned the save with 1.2 innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out three. Bozza drove in three runs on the day and scored the other for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s four total runs. She led the way with two hits in the second game.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a double-header at (RV) Webber International (Fla.) on Monday, March 29.
