JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/24/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University softball team had their eight-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday with a double-header loss to William Baptist (Ark.) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ lost the first game 6-0 and dropped the second game 8-3. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, ranked No. 17 in the NAIA, is 19-9 on the year, while Williams Baptist is 18-7.
In game one, Williams Baptist scored two in the first to take the lead. The Lady Eagles added a run in the fifth and three more in the seventh. The six runs were plenty for Williams Baptist pitcher, K. Hendrix (7-4), who tossed a complete game shutout. She allowed just two hits and struck out 10 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ hitters. Brooke Thomas (11-5) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with six strike outs in her seven innings of work. Ali Thomas and Stephanie Saunders recorded the only two hits for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
In the second game, Williams Baptist again scored first with a run in the first. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ this time answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. However, Williams Baptist scored in each of the first four innings, including five in the fourth to storm out to an 8-2 lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added a run in the seventh, but came up short, 8-3. Hendrix took the win again with another complete game, allowing three runs on three hits with three strike outs. Keaton Kirk (8-2) took the loss for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. She allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and three strike outs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Saunders hit the day's only home run as she led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with two RBI. Lindsey Landreneau and Ali Bozza led with two hits each.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a double-header on Friday, March 26 at Reinhardt (Ga.).
