JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/17/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University baseball team posted their second straight victory with an 8-2 win over Faulkner (Ala.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved 18-3 on the season, while Faulkner dropped to 18-8.
Faulkner jumped out to the early lead with a two-run first inning. An RBI single by Michael Clayton followed by a passed ball accounted for the two runs. Clayton led Faulkner with a 3-for-4 afternoon.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered with five runs in the bottom of the second. Kevin Kirksey provided the big blow with a two-run home run.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added a run in the fifth and two more in the six to complete the string of eight unanswered runs.
The Bulldogs were led by Clint Barnes and Beau Baker with three hits each. Alex Turner added two hits. Barnes, Baker, David Maristany and Kirksey each recorded two RBI. Baker’s RBI total included a solo home run.
Derek Copley (4-1) earned the win with six innings of work, allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Colin Hatch (1) earned the save, pitching the final three innings of scoreless relief with two hits and two strikeouts.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is off until Monday, March 22 when the Bulldogs travel to Christian Brothers (Tenn.) for a 2:00 p.m. double-header.
