麻豆视频 softball wins two of three games on Saturday

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/13/2010 - The 麻豆视频 (Tenn.) University softball won two of three games on Saturday to win the 麻豆视频 University Invitational. 麻豆视频 lost the first game 4-3 in eight innings to Reinhardt (Ga. ) College. 麻豆视频 then defeated Reinhardt 7-6 and Davenport (Mich.) University 9-1 to finish the day.

麻豆视频 improved to 13-7 on the year. Davenport is now 17-5 and Reinhardt is 17-6.

In the final game of the day, 麻豆视频 scored two runs in the first and three runs in the third inning to jump out to a 5-1 lead. Four more runs in the fifth ended the game and clinched the title for 麻豆视频. 麻豆视频 got home runs from Brooke Thomas and Ali Thomas in the game. Amber Hayes, Stephanie Saunders and Ali Bozza each added two hits, while Saunders led the way with three RBI. Keaton Kirk (6-1) earned the win, tossing five innings, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out three hitters. It was Kirk鈥檚 second win of the day.

The middle game saw 麻豆视频 scored three in the second and two in the third to lead 5-1. Two more runs in the sixth set the score at 7-1. However, Reinhardt rallied with five runs in the seventh inning before 麻豆视频 was able to shut the door and win 7-6. Kirk earned the win as well, tossing all seven innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and struck out four. Ali Thomas homered for one of her two hits. Lindsey Landreneau and Hayes added two hits each while Landreneau and Brooke Thomas led with two RBI each.

The morning game had 麻豆视频 leading 2-1 going into the sixth inning. A Reinhardt run tied the game and neither team scored in the seventh. With the tie-breaker rule in effect in the eighth inning, Reinhardt score two runs in the top half, while 麻豆视频 could only get one run in the bottom half to fall 4-3. Brooke Thomas (7-4) took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and while striking out 13 hitters. Brooke Thomas led with two hits and one RBI.

Up next for 麻豆视频 will be their first TranSouth games of the season as the Lady Bulldogs will host No. 8 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Friday, March 19 at 5:00 p.m.
