HATTIESBURG, Miss. - 3/12/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University baseball team posted an 8-4 win at No. 14 William Carey (Miss.) University on Friday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 15-2 on the season, while William Carey dropped to 12-10 overall.
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Bulldogs have won three straight on the season. This win also pushed the season series against the Crusaders of William Carey to 2-0. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ topped the Crusaders 9-2 back on March 3.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first with three runs in the top of the third inning when Beau Baker cleared the bases with a single. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tacked on a single run in each the fifth and sixth inning to extend the lead to 5-0. In the bottom of the fifth, William Carey got on the board with two runs to cut the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ lead down to 5-2. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered back with three more runs in the seventh. The big hit was a two-RBI single by Bolivar native Clint Barnes.
Derek Copley (3-1) of Dyer, Tenn. earned the win with 5.2 innings of work, allowing just two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. Brad Davis earned his fourth save of the season, tossing the final 3.1 innings. Davis allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
Barnes and Corey Rudolph led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with three hits each. Alex Turner added two hits. Baker and Barnes led with three and two RBI respectively.
The same two teams will continue their three-game weekend series on Saturday, March 13 at noon in Hattiesburg.
