JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/6/2010 - The No. 25 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s golf team defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) University 13 ½ to 7 ½ in a match play event on Saturday at the Jackson National Golf Club. This is the second tournament title for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ this spring. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Bulldogs have yet to lose to an NAIA opponent this spring.
This match play event is similar to the format for the Ryder Cup. The format included foursomes which Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won 3-2, four-ball which Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won 3 ½-1 ½ and singles which Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 7-4.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by former JCS standout Brett Barry with a 3-0 mark. Wes Dyer, another freshman was 2-0 along with Tyler Lay and David Hopper. Matt Kelley was 2-1, Mills Hamaguchi was 1-0-1, Micah Gentle was 2-0-1, Ben Waits was 2-1, Jesper Swedenborg was 1-2, Jake Carroll was 1-2, Ryan Mantooth was 1-1 and Clay Mallard was 1-2.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a trip to Arizona for the Tuscon Invitational Games on March 10-12.
