JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/4/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team advances to the TranSouth Conference Tournament semifinals after a 93-56 win over Lyon (Ark.) College at home on Thursday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 24-7 on the year, while Lyon ends their season with a 7-23 mark.
After a tightly played first half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ exploded for 59 second half points to pull away with the win.
Over the first 13 minutes of play, the game featured four ties and 10 lead changes. At the seven minute mark of the first half, the game was tied at 20. A basket from Greg Truvillion started a 14-2 run that put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 34-22 with 1:20 left in the half. A quick 6-0 by Lyon to close the half put the halftime score at 34-28.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted a 19-4 run to extend their lead to 21 points, 53-32, at the 15:12 mark. Lyon got as close as 17 over the next few minutes, but it was Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ pulling away to win by 37 points, 93-56.
Eleven of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s 12 players scored in the game, including five players in double figures. Greg Truvillion, Stan McNeil and Keith Tolliver each scored 17 points. Truvillion recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds, while McNeil drained 3-of-6 from long range. Samuel Danache scored 12 points and Antione Joseph added 10 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 52 percent from the field, 39 percent (7-18) from behind the arc and 67 percent (20-30) from the free-throw line.
Lyon was led by Quinn Cooper with 12 points and Andy Lee with 11 points. Lyon shot 32 percent from the field, 36 percent (10-28) from behind the arc and 57 percent (4-7) from the free-throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a semifinal match up on Saturday night, March 6 at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. The Bulldogs will play Cumberland (Tenn.) who upset fourth seeded Trevecca Nazarene to keep their season alive.
