JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/26/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University softball team posted a double-header sweep of Missouri Baptist University on Friday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied to win the first game 14-7 and then took the second game 5-0. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 6-2 on the season, while Missouri Baptist fell to 1-5.
In the first game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed 6-2 after three and one-half innings of play. In the bottom of the fourth, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ exploded for seven runs. The big blast came when Amber Hayes belted a three-run home run. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 9-7 going into the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Bulldogs added five more runs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Hayes with a 3-for-4 game including three runs and three RBI. Ali Thomas and Ali Bozza recorded two hits each and Lindsey Landreneau added two RBI. Brooke Thomas (5-1) earned the win with a complete game allowing seven runs, four earned and striking out three.
In the second game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored a run in the first and two more in the second to lead 3-0. Single runs in the fifth and sixth added insurance for the 5-0 win. Landreneau was 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI. Hayes added two more hits to her day. Keaton Kirk (1-0) earned the win with a complete game, four-hit shutout, with five strikeouts.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home double-header on Saturday versus No. 25 McKendree (Ill.) University at noon.
