Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ baseball takes first loss of season in Friday split

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/19/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University baseball improved to stayed perfect on the season with a 7-4 win over Missouri Baptist University in the first game on Friday. However, the Bulldogs dropped their first game of the year in a 1-0 loss to Indiana University-Southeast in the second game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 5-1 on the season, while Missouri Baptist is 1-2 and Indiana-Southeast is 2-1.

In the first game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fell behind 1-0 after a Spartan run in the top of the first. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered with three runs in the bottom of the first with the helped of a two-run homer from Corey Rudolph. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added four more runs in the second inning to go up 7-1. A two-run homer from Kevin Kirksey and a two-run triple from Beau Baker accounted for the four RBI. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Carl Harken (1-0) pitched six innings, allowing four runs and striking out eight batters. Brad Davis earned the save with on inning of relief, recording three outs on two pitches thanks to a game-ending double-play.

The second game was scoreless until Indiana-Southeast posted the game’s only run in the top of the fourth inning. A throwing error led to the unearned run after Cameron Conner singled to start the inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Jeremy Stack (0-1) allowed just three hits and the one unearned run with six strikeouts in seven innings. However, Indiana-Southeast pitcher, Adam Lipke, earned the win with seven innings of four-hit ball while striking out 10 batters. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ left seven runners on base.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a matchup of the same teams on Saturday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will play Indiana-Southeast and Missouri Baptist back-to-back, following the Missouri Baptist and Indiana-Southeast game at 11:00 a.m.
