JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/19/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University softball team posted a pair of victories on Friday including a 4-3 win over University of Missouri-St. Louis and a 7-4 win over William Woods (Mo.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 3-1 on the season, while Missouri-St. Louis is 1-1 and William Woods is 1-3.
In the first game Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first with two runs in the bottom of the first. The scored stayed 2-0 until Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tacked on another run in the fifth. The Missouri-St. Louis bats came to life in the sixth with two runs to cut the lead down to 3-2. In the top of the seven, the Tritons used a lead off home run from Katie Bartlett to tie the game at 3-3. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Ali Thomas led off with a double. Amber Hayes followed with a single to put the winning run at third. Stephanie Saunders then singled to drive in Thomas and give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the win. Brooke Thomas (2-0) tossed seven innings, allowing five hits, three runs, one earned and striking out 15 hitters. Keaton Kirk, Lindsey Landreneau, Ali Thomas, Hayes and Saunders each had two hits for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
The night cap saw William Woods jump out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered with one run in the fourth, five runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to rally for the 7-4 win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got a home run from Hayes who led all hitters with a 3-for-4 game. Ali Thomas recorded two RBI in the game. Brooke Thomas (2-0) earned the win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in relief.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be two more games on Saturday against the same two teams. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ plays Missouri-St. Louis at 10:00 a.m. Missouri-St. then plays William Woods at noon, followed by Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and William Woods at 2:00 p.m.
