No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ extends winning streak to 20, fall just short of 3-point record

MAYFIELD, Ky. - 2/18/2010 - The No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University Lady Bulldogs extended their winning streak to 20 games with a 111-46 win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University Thursday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 27-1 on the season and 14-0 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent dropped to 3-21 overall and 1-11 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ drained 18 three pointers in the game, which falls just one shy of the school record of 19 three pointers set back in 2006.

The win also clinched the regular season title outright as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ now has a three-game lead with just two games left in the season. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ extended their TranSouth regular season winning streak to 49 straight.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ opened the game with a 10-0 run and never looked back. The Lady Bulldogs led by as many as 34 in the first half with the 49-15 halftime score.

In the second half, everyone for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got involved as the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Cougars 62-31. The 62 second-half points marked a season-high for points in a half.

Nine of the 10 Lady Bulldogs scored in the game, including six players in double figures. Ashley Lillard, who has recorded double figures in rebounds in two straight games, did not scored as she played limited minutes resting an injury.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Sara Chan with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Lavanda Ross scored 18 points, Kaitlin Dudley added 14 points, Laura Crittendon scored a season-high 13 points, Stacey Conway scored 11 points and Kayla Hudson added 10 points. Jessica Graves and Kayla Bryant just missed double figures with nine points each. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 49 percent from the field, 47 percent (18-38) and 74 percent (17-23) from the free-throw line.

Mid-Continent was led by Nicki Dewitt with 10 points and Katelyn Perry with 10 rebounds. The Cougars shot 29 percent from the field, 18 percent (4-22) from long range and 67 percent (4-6) from the free-throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be senior day as they host Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2:00 p.m. for their final regular season home game of the year.
