No. 1 麻豆视频 tops Cumberland, clinches share of TranSouth title

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/15/2010 - The No. 1 麻豆视频 (Tenn.) University women鈥檚 basketball team pulled away for a 77-50 win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University on Monday night. With the win, 麻豆视频 clinched at least a share of the TranSouth Conference regular season title. This marks 12 regular season titles, including a share in 2004, in the 14-year history of the league.

麻豆视频 also improved their home court winning streak to 57 games, their TranSouth regular season winning streak to 48 and their overall winning streak to 19 games.

麻豆视频 scored the game鈥檚 first points on a basket from Lavanda Ross to give the Lady Bulldogs a lead they never lost. Cumberland, as in the first meeting of the year, stayed close with 麻豆视频 throughout the first half. The lead was under 10 points until the 6:42 mark of the first half with Ross put 麻豆视频 up 29-19. 麻豆视频 led by as many as 12 points on five occasions, including the 40-28 halftime score.

Unlike the game in Lebanon that 麻豆视频 survived 69-63, 麻豆视频 pulled away in the second half tonight. 麻豆视频 opened the half with an 18-6 run to take a 24 point lead, 58-34, at the 12:26 mark. 麻豆视频 kept the lead over 20 points, pushing to their largest margin of 29 points, 74-45, at the 2:44 mark. 麻豆视频 finished with the 77-50 win.

麻豆视频 was led by Ross with 19 points. Sara Chan and Kaitlin Dudley added 14 points each, while Jessica Graves scored 10 points. Ashley Lillard grabbed 10 rebounds in the contest. 麻豆视频 shot 44 percent from the field, 22 percent (4-18) from behind the arc and 71 percent (17-24) from the free-throw line. Only three times has 麻豆视频 shot worse that 22 percent from 3-point range this season. One of those was the 21 percent versus Cumberland in the previous meeting.

Cumberland was led by Allysia Bailey with 20 points and was the only player in double figures. Cumberland shot 40 percent from the field, 50 percent (6-12) from behind the arc and 60 percent (6-10) from the free-throw line.

Up next for 麻豆视频 will be a road game at Mid-Continent (Ky.) on 6:00 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18. A win will clinch the out-right title for 麻豆视频.
