JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/13/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University Bulldogs opened the 2010 season with a pair of wins over Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the first game 5-4 on a go ahead single in the sixth, while Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won the second game 3-0 on a 3-run walk-off homer in the seventh.
The second game was scoreless through six and a half innings before Josh Jones belted a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. Despite the lack of scoring, both teams put plenty of men on base. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ left nine men on base, while Lindsey Wilson stranded seven runners. However, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Clint Barnes and Rudolph walked ahead Jones’ game winning shot. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sophomore Jeremy Stack, a former Madison Academic standout, pitched five scoreless innings allowing just four hits and striking out eight batters. Freshman Jared Davis, a former USJ pitcher, tossed two innings of one-hit scoreless relief with three strikeouts to record his first collegiate win.
Game one started with Lindsey Wilson scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied with two in the bottom of the first and two more in the third inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Cory Rudolph posted an RBI triple in the third. Senior all-conference pitcher Carl Harken tossed five innings, allowing just one run on four hits with five strikeouts. After Harken left the game, Lindsey Wilson took advantage with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie game with the help of a Joseph Willis RBI double. Brad Davis tossed just one-third of an inning, allowing three runs, two earned, with one walk. With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Jackson native and Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ freshman Benjie Fesmire laced an RBI single to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the 5-4 lead. Derek Copley relieved Andrew Haley in the top of the seventh and recorded two outs for the save. Haley earned the win with one inning of relief, allowing no hits and one walk.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home game on Tuesday, February 16 versus Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University at 2:30 p.m.
