Dudley’s record half helps No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ put away Martin Methodist 103-69

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/6/2010 - No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s basketball extended their home court winning streak to 55 games with a 103-69 win over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College. Senior guard Kaitlin Dudley set a record with 29 first half points, including a perfect shooting half.

Dudley also moved into fifth place on Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's all-time scoring list with 2,172 career points, and is just 9 points shy of fourth place all-time.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 23-1 overall and a league best 10-0 in the TranSouth. The win also extended Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s overall winning streak to 16 games and their regular season conference game winning streak to 45 games.

The game started with four straight three pointers, two from Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and two from the RedHawks of Martin Methodist. But with the score at 6-6, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted a 10-0 run to take control early. Martin Methodist remained close for a while and with 7:21 left in the half, had cut Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s lead down to 31-26.

However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ closed out the half with a 27-7 run to take a 58-33 halftime lead. Dudley sank two free throws with 15 seconds left to give her 29 first half points. The 29 points matched her season high and set a Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ record for points in a half. Dudley was 10-of-10 from the field, 5-of-5 from behind the arc and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the first half.

The second half Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continued to extend their lead as they pushed their advantage out to as many as 36 points, 97-61, with 2:25 left. Dudley finally missed her first shot early in the second half, but did add one free throw to finish with a game high 30 points.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Dudley’s 30, just four points shy of her career high. Lavanda Ross poured in 20 points. Kayla Hudson, who was held scoreless in the first half, exploded for 13 second half points. Jessica Graves added 10 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 50 percent from the field, including 62 percent in the first half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 48 percent (12-25) from behind the arc and 85 percent (23-27) from the free-throw line.

Martin Methodist was led by Whitney Robinson with 21 points. Micha Anderson added 15 points and Ashley Meeks scored 10 points. The RedHawks shot 47 percent from the field, 31 percent (5-16) from behind the arc and 86 percent (12-14) from the free-throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road game on Thursday night at Lyon (Ark.) College at 6:00 p.m.
