Jackson, Tenn. - 10/17/2001 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ claims the West Tennessee Collegiate Soccer Cup Championship, sponsored by Boise Cascade and Madison Lighting & Interior, as they defeated Bethel College 3-2. With Lambuth's 7-2 win earlier over Freed-Hardeman, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Lambuth went 2-0 in the tournament. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored more points in the tournament to give them the win.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ overcame two one-goal deficits in the first half. Adrian Yeung tied the game at 1-1 and then late in the first half, Joe Phiri scored on an assist by Yeung to tie the game at 2-2 going into halftime. With 13 minutes left in the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Kyle McDiarmid added the final goal of the game with Kolo Goshi giving him the assist.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's sophmore midfielder, Kyle McDiarmid was named the tournament MVP. McDiarmid, Joe Phiri, Kekec Zivkovic, and Adrian Yeung were the four Bulldogs to be named to the West Tennessee Collegiate Soccer Cup All-Tournament team.
With the win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves its overall record to 8-6 on the season.
