JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/15/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s basketball team remains the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA for the 28th straight ranking. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s basketball team dropped to No. 19.
The 28 straight No. 1 rankings for the women spans three seasons. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ solidified their spot by defeating then No. 6 Lee (Tenn.) 91-54. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ received eight first place votes with No. 2 St. Xavier (Ill.) getting three first place votes. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 11-1 on the season overall. The Lady Bulldogs are 6-1 versus teams currently ranked in the top-25, including 3-1 versus top-10 and 9-1 versus teams ranked or receiving votes in the latest poll. Up next for the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs will be a road trip to Daytona, Florida on December 28 and 29 for the Daytona Beach Shootout. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ plays No. 18 Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Brenau (Ga.). The match-up with Wayland Baptist features the NAIA's top two winningest programs in women's basketball. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is tops in the NAIA with 1,035 wins, while Wayland Baptist is No. 2 with 926 program wins.
The men are 8-4 on the season and have a 3-1 record versus teams ranked in the latest top-25. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday by No. 24 Olivet Nazarene University by the score of 83-68. Up next for the men will be rematch when Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ travels to Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday, January 2 to try and avenge a 57-50 loss from earlier in the season.
