KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 12/7/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s basketball team is the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA for the 27th straight ranking. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s basketball team moved up one spot to No. 10.
The 27 straight No. 1 rankings for the women spans three seasons. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s top spot was in jeopardy after a seven-point loss to then No. 7 St. Xavier (Ill.) on a neutral court back on November 27. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ received five first place votes with No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) getting three first place votes and No. 3 St. Xavier getting four first place votes. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 10-1 on the season overall. The Lady Bulldogs are 5-1 versus teams currently ranked in the top-25, including 2-1 versus top-10 and 8-1 versus teams ranked or receiving votes in the latest poll. Up next for the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs will be a home game on Saturday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m. versus No. 6 Lee (Tenn.), the lone team to defeat Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in 2008-09.
The men are 8-3 on the season and have a 3-1 record versus teams ranked in the latest top-25. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is hot as of late, winning four straight games by an average of 16.8 points per game. In that four-game winning streak, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defeated No. 12 McKendree (Ill.), No. 23 Life (Ga.) and Belhaven (Miss.) who is receiving votes. Up next for the men will be a rematch when Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ travels to No. 24 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) on Saturday, December 12 to try and avenge a 69-66 loss in the second game of the season.
