No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ uses big first half to topple No. 12 Campbellsville 90-70

JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/5/2009 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs used a 22-point halftime lead to cruise to a 90-70 win over No. 12 Campbellsville (Ky.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ gets their tenth win of the year (10-1) and earn their forty-ninth straight home win. Campbellsville drops their first game of the season, falling to 7-1.

Campbellsville led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 20-19 at the 9:51 mark. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored the next eight points to start a 31-8 run to close out the first half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Ashley Lillard scored 13 of her 17 total points in the first half, pushing the Lady Bulldogs to a 50-28 lead at the break.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 71 percent (20-28) in two-point field goals in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs attempted just four three pointers in the first 20 minutes, making one.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ extended their lead to as many as 25 points, 64-39, before taking the 90-70 win.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Kaitlin Dudley with a game high 20 points and six assists. Lillard finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Sara Chan scored 16 points, Christina Ray added 13 points and Kayla Hudson scored 11 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 57 percent from the field, 36 percent (5-14) from behind the arc and 79 percent (15-19) from the free throw line.

Campbellsville was led by Courtney Danis with 17 points and Whitney Ballinger with 14 points. The Lady Tigers shot 44 percent from the field, 26 percent (6-23) from behind the arc and 50 percent (8-16) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another matchup with a top-10 team as No. 5 Lee (Tenn.) University comes to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on Saturday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m.
