No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ earns road win at Shorter 84-68

ROME, Ga. - 11/30/2009 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs posted a road win at Shorter (Ga.) College on Monday 84-68. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 9-1 on the season, while Shorter dropped to 4-3 overall.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a 15 point lead, 38-23, in the first half. A three-point play by Shorter cut the halftime lead to 38-26.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ pushed the lead to over 20 points. Kayla Bryant exploded for her Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ-high in points with 21 points. She sank seven-of-10 three pointers, including four in the second half to help propel Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to the big win. Kayla Hudson added four three pointers in the game as well.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ committed just 14 turnovers in the game, including four turnovers in the final few minutes, compared to the 23 turnovers committed by Shorter.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Sara Chan with 22 points and 14 rebounds for her second straight double-double. Bryant posted 21 points, Hudson scored 16 points and Kaitlin Dudley added 11 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 44 percent from the field, 39 percent (12-31) and 80 percent (16-20) from the free throw line.

Shorter was led by Tamara Weatherby with 17 points, including three-of-three from behind the arc. Shelby Farrer and Holly Bawden each added 12 points. Shorter shot 49 percent from the field, 38 percent (6-16) from three point range and 67 percent (12-18) form the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another matchup with a top-25 team as the Lady Bulldogs host No. 12 Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday, December 5 at 2:00 p.m.
