Â鶹ÊÓƵ men take tough road loss at Belhaven 75-72

JACKSON, Miss. - 11/24/2009 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University men’s basketball team dropped to 4-3 on the season with a 75-72 loss at Belhaven (Miss.) College on Tuesday night. Â鶹ÊÓƵ, ranked No. 11 in the NAIA preseason rankings, lost their 10-point halftime lead as Belhaven (7-0) poured in 48 second half points.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ led for the majority of the first half, including a 37-27 halftime advantage. Â鶹ÊÓƵ held a lead for most of the second half but could not hold off the hard charging Blazers of Belhaven. Belhaven took their first lead since early in the contest at the 3:21 mark of the second half, 66-65.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ led by as many as 14 points three times in the second half, with the last coming 51-37 at the 14:19 mark. Over the next 11-plus minutes, Belhaven outscored Â鶹ÊÓƵ 28-15 to take the lead.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ stayed close down the stretch and following a missed free throw by Belhaven in the final seconds, the Bulldogs had the ball down by three with eight seconds left, but had a long pass stolen by the Blazers.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ was led by Greg Truvillion with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. Keith Tolliver added 17 points in the game. Â鶹ÊÓƵ shot 48 percent from the field, 25 percent (5-20) from three point range and 69 percent (9-13) from the free throw line. Â鶹ÊÓƵ also committed 21 turnovers in the game

Belhaven was led by Woodie Howard with 22 points and nine rebounds. Rob Wallace added 17 points, Nathaniel Roche’ scored 12 points and Larell Bailey scored 10 points. Belhaven shot 45 percent from the field, 33 percent (4-12) from behind the arc and just 52 percent (13-25) from the free throw line.

Up next for Â鶹ÊÓƵ will be the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Thanksgiving Classic. The Bulldogs host No. 5 McKendree (Ill.) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then No. 23 Life (Ga.) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
