Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men take tough road loss at Belhaven 75-72

JACKSON, Miss. - 11/24/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s basketball team dropped to 4-3 on the season with a 75-72 loss at Belhaven (Miss.) College on Tuesday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, ranked No. 11 in the NAIA preseason rankings, lost their 10-point halftime lead as Belhaven (7-0) poured in 48 second half points.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led for the majority of the first half, including a 37-27 halftime advantage. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held a lead for most of the second half but could not hold off the hard charging Blazers of Belhaven. Belhaven took their first lead since early in the contest at the 3:21 mark of the second half, 66-65.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 14 points three times in the second half, with the last coming 51-37 at the 14:19 mark. Over the next 11-plus minutes, Belhaven outscored Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 28-15 to take the lead.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stayed close down the stretch and following a missed free throw by Belhaven in the final seconds, the Bulldogs had the ball down by three with eight seconds left, but had a long pass stolen by the Blazers.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Greg Truvillion with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. Keith Tolliver added 17 points in the game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 48 percent from the field, 25 percent (5-20) from three point range and 69 percent (9-13) from the free throw line. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also committed 21 turnovers in the game

Belhaven was led by Woodie Howard with 22 points and nine rebounds. Rob Wallace added 17 points, Nathaniel Roche’ scored 12 points and Larell Bailey scored 10 points. Belhaven shot 45 percent from the field, 33 percent (4-12) from behind the arc and just 52 percent (13-25) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Thanksgiving Classic. The Bulldogs host No. 5 McKendree (Ill.) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then No. 23 Life (Ga.) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
