Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s soccer season ends with 1-0 loss

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/10/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s soccer program lost 1-0 in the semifinals of the 2009 TranSouth Conference Tournament to Bethel (Tenn.) University. The loss ended Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s season at 9-6-2, while Bethel advanced with a 5-5-5 record.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s No. 2 seed in the conference tournament was the highest seed for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the five-year history of the program. The Lady Bulldogs finished second in the regular season with a 4-1-1 league record, including a 1-0 win over Bethel in the regular season.

As the matched looked to be heading to halftime with a scoreless first 45mintues, Bethel hit the back of the net with a goal from Marika Fukuta in the 43rd minute of play. That goal proved to be the game winner as Bethel advanced to the title game with win.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Bethel each recorded nine shots in the match, with Bethel edged Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Laura Pla, the all-conference goalie for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, recorded five saves while Jackie Gardner of Bethel earned three saves.
