No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ wins 28th straight game with 73-57 win at No. 12 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - 11/9/2009 - The No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s basketball team recorded a tough road win at No. 12 the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 73-57. With the win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ notched their 28th straight win, moving to 4-0 on the season. Cumberlands dropped to 1-1 on the year.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game and never relinquished that lead. Cumberlands slowly started to rally back, and trailed the defending champs 34-30 at halftime.

In the second half, Cumberlands cut the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ lead down to just two points twice in the first few minutes. However, a three pointer from Lavanda Ross sparked a Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ run that propelled the Lady Bulldogs to a 21-point lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ then cruised to the 16 point win, 73-57.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Kaitlin Dudley with 23 points. This marked the third time in four games to start the year for Dudley to reach at least 20 points. Zeinab Chan, Kayla Hudson and Lavanda Ross each added 14 points. Chan recorded her third double-double of the season with 11 rebounds to go with her 14 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 48 percent from the field, 31 percent (5-16) from behind the arc and 73 percent (24-33) from the free throw line.

Cumberlands was led by Lauren Wombles with 14 points. Sonia Thompson and Amber Neace each add nine points. Cumberlands shot 33 percent from the field, just 19 percent (5-26) and 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is off for 10 days until the Rotary Classic begins on Thursday, November 19.
