麻豆视频 women鈥檚 soccer gets first win over Bethel, 1-0

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/22/2009 - The 麻豆视频 University Lady Bulldog soccer team posted a milestone win with a 1-0 victory of Bethel (Tenn.) University. This marked the first win over Bethel in seven matches, spanning the five-year history of the 麻豆视频 women鈥檚 soccer program. 麻豆视频 improved to 7-5-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in the TranSouth. Bethel dropped to 3-4-3 overall and 2-1-2 in league play.

In a slight on-and-off drizzle, 麻豆视频 and Bethel played a slow first half with neither team able to produce many scoring opportunities. However, it was 麻豆视频 that broke through first with a goal from Eboni Murphy with just under two minutes left to play in the half. Jill Landers recorded the assist.

麻豆视频 took that 1-0 lead and held off numerous Bethel scoring threats in the second half to hold on for the win. Bethel outshot 麻豆视频 8-0 in the second half, 14-2 in the match, and 7-2 in shots-on-goal. 麻豆视频鈥檚 Laura Pla recorded seven saves in the match including a one-handed save inside ten minutes remaining to help secure the shutout.

Bethel鈥檚 Jackie Gardner recorded a save in her 90 minutes of work between the posts. Maryse Beauregard and Marika Fukuta led Bethel with four and three shots respectively.

Up next for 麻豆视频 will be another TranSouth Conference match when the Lady Bulldogs travel to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University for a 5:00 p.m. match.
