PULASKI, Tenn. - 10/20/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s soccer team dropped a close match at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 2-1. Martin Methodist, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings, scored the game-winning goal with four minutes left to break a 1-1 tie. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dropped to 3-9 on the season and 1-3 in league play. Martin Methodist improved to 6-2-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the TranSouth.
Martin Methodist took the lead with a goal from Fernando Andrade in the twenty-ninth minute, assisted by Shayne Rollins. The scored remained 1-0 in favor of the RedHawks until Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tied the match on a goal from Rafael Carvalho in the sixty-fifth minute of play.
The matched seemed to be heading for overtime, which would have been the third overtime match for Martin Methodist and first for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. However, the home RedHawks took care of the dramatics with a winning goal from Kuda Kagoro in the eighty-sixth minute, assisted by Fernando Barbeiro.
Martin Methodist outshot Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 14-6 in the match. J. Landam recorded seven saves for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in goal, while his counterpart, James Coleman tallied two saves for the RedHawks.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a non-conference match on Thursday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. versus Asbury (Ky.) College. It will be senior night for the men’s soccer team.
