JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/20/2009 - On a night that the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University volleyball team honored their only senior, Katie Adams, the Lady Bulldogs knocked off Mid-Continent (Ky.) University 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-8). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 23-4 on the season and 7-4 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent dropped to 2-15 overall and 0-12 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Mid-Continent started the first match by swapping points, as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took a 6-5 lead. The Lady Bulldog then scored five straight times to pull away. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 12 points, 18-6 and the final, 25-13. In the second set, Mid-Continent jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rattled off a five-point run again to take a 6-4 lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ did not trail again on their way to a 25-15 win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dominated the third and final set, jumping out to a lead of 19-6, before extending the lead to the 25-8 final.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Heather Lieberman with 12 kills and Kelsey Duling added 11 kills. Adams recorded 31 assists on her senior night. Lauren Sprouse led with 18 digs, while Caitie Paul and Caroline Robbins added two blocks each.
Mid-Continent was led by Tiffany Payton with seven kills. Kelsey Swindler tallied 15 assists, and Katie Perry led with 10 digs and one block.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road conference match on Monday, October 26 at 6:00 p.m. in Batesville, Ark. Versus Lyon College.
