Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ volleyball falls 3-0 at Trevecca Nazarene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 10/15/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 29-27) at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University on Thursday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dropped to 22-4 on the season and 6-4 in the TranSouth. Trevecca Nazarene improved to 15-8 overall and 6-3 in league play.

This marked the first time all that Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has been shut out. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also played without three startes. Last week's TranSouth Conference Player of the Week and the team's leader in kills, Marcela Madeira, along with Kacie Ritter and Shelby Swink were all out with injury.

Trevecca Nazarene controlled the first set, pushing their largest lead to eight points. The Trojans led 24-16, before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rattled off seven straight points to pull to within one point, 24-23. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ lost the set 25-23.

In the second set, Trevecca Nazarene jumped out to a 4-1 lead, before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied to lead 17-11. After a TNU timeout, the Trojans rallied to catch the Lady Bulldogs of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 21-21. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led again, 22-21, but never reached set point. Trevecca Nazarene rallied to take the second set 26-24.

The third set, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led most of the way, including a four-point lead, 23-19. However, it was the home Trojans rallying again to take the set and match, 29-27. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had set point at 26-25, but could not score.

Kelsey Duling led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with 12 kills, while Anna Sims and Heather Lieberman added eight kills each. Katie Adams added 30 assists. Lauren Sprouse led with 18 digs, while Sims led with five blocks.

Trevecca Nazarene was led by Kaley Wardwith 15 kills. Jennifer Peterson added 12 kills and Teegan Hunziker added 10 kills. Brooke Cannon and Wiggins led with 24 and 20 assists respectively. Hunziker tallied 23 digs, while Ward led with three blocks.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their final home match of the season and Senior night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host Mid-Continent (Ky.) University on Tuesday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m.
