BUCHANAN, Tenn. - 10/13/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s golf team posted a sixth place finish out of 16 teams in the Skyhawk Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee-Martin. The two day, three round event was played the Paris Landing Golf Course. For the second straight week, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has placed high in an NCAA Div. I hosted golf tournament, placing third in Murray State’s Classic last week. Also for the second straight week, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished as the highest NAIA team.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was in seventh place after the first two rounds on Monday, but moved up one spot in the final round. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 294 in the first round, 292 in the second round, and 296 in the third round that came to an end just prior to the rain. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s three-round total of 882 was off the pace set by tournament winner, the University of Central Arkansas (839). The host team, UT Martin, placed their top team in ninth place, and their second team in thirteenth place. The only other NAIA schools to participate were Lambuth (Tenn.) in fourteenth place and Bethel (Tenn.) in sixteenth place.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Ryan Chandler was the top Bulldog finisher with a tournament score of 217, good for a tie for tenth place. He finished behind Jad Sinclair (Central Arkansas) who won the event with a 203. Mills Hamaguchi placed twenty-eighth (221), Brett Berry placed third-fifth (223), Clay Mallard placed forty-fifth (226) and Micah Gentle placed fifty-first (227) to round out Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s golfers.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College Invitational in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. on Monday, October 19.
