MURRAY, Ky. - 10/6/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s golf team posted a fourth place finish in the Murray State (Ky.) University Invitational. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s two-round total of 581 was just 12 shots behind the first place Murray State team.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Clay Mallard of Milan, Tenn. posted a fourth place finish in the individual results with a 141, just three shots off the 138 shot by the individual champion, Nick Newcomb of Murray State. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ freshman Brett Barry, a former Jackson Christian School standout, finished 18 (145). Ryan Chandler finished 25 (146), Mills Hamaguchi finished 37 (149) and Ben Waits finished 72 (162) to round out Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s team.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was fourth behind Murray State A (569), Murray State B (572) and Central Arkansas (573). Tennessee Tech University finished in a tie in fourth with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (581).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was the highest finishing NAIA school and placed equal to or above nine NCAA schools.
The event was scheduled to include three rounds of play, however rain on Tuesday washed out the third round. Results through the first two rounds are considered final.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ golf will be the University of Tennessee – Martin Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 12-13.
