JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/1/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs defeated Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 28-26, 25-23). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 17-1 on the season and remained in a tie for first in the TranSouth with a 5-1 record. Trevecca Nazarene dropped to 12-6 overall and 3-2 in league play.
In the first set, it was back-and-forth with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ taking a 20-18 lead. Trevecca Nazarene answered late, scoring eight of the final 12 points to win 26-24. The biggest lead for either team in the match came in the second set when Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 14-8, eventually winning 25-21. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ started the third set with a 5-1 lead and in another back-and-forth set, won 28-26. Trevecca Nazarene led the fourth set 6-2 and 11-7, but Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stormed back with a 13-4 run to lead 20-15. However, the Trojans did not go away and tied the set up at 23-23. But it was Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scoring the final two points to win the match.
Kelsey Duling led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with 16 kills and 22 digs while teammate Marcela Maderia contributed 11 kills and 26 digs. Senior Katie Adams had 43 assists to help her team to a victory.
Teegan Hunziker of Trevecca Nazarene had 16 kills, while Jessica Hood added 13 kills. Brooke Cannon added 44 assists, while Haley White led with 24 digs.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another conference match on Tuesday, October 6 at Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn.
