Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s soccer records shutout in win over Asbury

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/26/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s soccer team posted a 2-0 win over Asbury (Ky.) College on Saturday. The win moved Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to 5-3-1 on the season, while Asbury dropped to 4-6.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored the match’s first goal just one minute into play when Candice Blackard hit the back of the net. Eboni Murphy and Steffi King both tallied an assist on the play. The score was 1-0 at the half and remained 1-0 until Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added a second goal in the 55th minute of play. Jamie Haynes recorded the goal with an assist from Christina Reardon.

Laura Pla recorded five saves in her 90-minute shutout for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Asbury’s Melanie Dickson recorded seven saves in the loss. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out shot Asbury 15-7 in the match.

Prior to the varsity game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s reserve team notched a shutout as well with a 7-0 victory over Asbury.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 5:00 p.m. versus Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Ky.) College.
