Â鶹ÊÓƵ golf drops first Greystone Cup 8 ½ to 7 ½

DICKSON, Tenn. - 9/22/2009 - Â鶹ÊÓƵ University fell 8 ½ to 7 ½ in the first-ever Greystone Cup at the Greystone Golf Course in Dickson, Tenn. Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University nipped the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Bulldogs with a put on the final hole.

The rules of play were similar to the infamous Ryder Cup Matches. The winner would be the first team to accumulate a total of 8 ½ points.

After the first 18 holes on Monday morning Trevecca Nazarene led the competition 3-1.

The second 18 holes on Monday afternoon were interrupted by inclement weather and then later darkness halted the round with only one of the four points decided. Â鶹ÊÓƵ had closed the gap to 3-2. When the second round resumed on Tuesday morning Â鶹ÊÓƵ finished with a 3 ½ to ½ advantage giving them an overall edge of 4 ½ to 3 ½.

The final round of 18 holes on Tuesday saw each of the eight members on each team facing someone on the other team in a head-to-head competition. The Greystone Cup came down to the final hole with Trevecca's Grant Moffett needing an eight-foot par putt for the win. The junior drained the putt to give Trevecca the win 8 ½ to 7 ½.
