JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/10/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University volleyball team remained perfect on the season with a 3-0 (35-21, 25-19, 25-22) win over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ moved to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Martin Methodist opened the match in the first set with a quick 5-0 run. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ steadied themselves, to pull back even with the RedHawks. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ controlled the lead for the remainder of the first set and most of the second set. In the third and final set, Martin Methodist held a slim lead for most of the set, including a 3-0 lead to start play and a 14-11 lead midway through. Martin Methodist led 20-18 in the third set, before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored seven of the next nine points to take the win.
For Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, Kelsey Duling and Marcela Madeira led the way with 11 kills each. Heather Lieberman and Anna Sims added six and five kills respectively. Katie Adams posted 35 assists, while Lieberman and Madeira led with two service aces each. Shelby Swink led with four blocks.
Martin Methodist was led by Jhessica Martins with 13 kills and Precious Sanders with 12 kills. Kayla Spencer led with 19 assists while Jordan Owens and Ann-Kathrin Kuehhorn led with two blocks.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be four matches in the Rhodes (Tenn.) College Tournament in Memphis, Tenn. on Friday and Saturday, September 11-12.
